Defence Minister Bošković and UK Defence Secretary Fallon sign memorandum on cooperation
Brussels, Belgium (15 February 2017) – Minister of Defence Predrag Bošković and Defence Secretary of the United Kingdom Michael Fallon signed earlier today at the North Atlantic Council's meeting in Brussels the Memorandum on cooperation between the two ministries.
Minister Bošković highlighted that the two ministries cherish intensive cooperation, adding that the memorandum will create a legal framework aimed at boosting collaboration in this area. He also noted that the overall cooperation is in line with the need for improving capacities of the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces of Montenegro.
Speaking of Montenegro's Euro-Atlantic accession process, Minister Bošković voiced belief that the cooperation with the UK will be intensified once the country becomes the full-fledged NATO member state. He also thanked Mr Fallon for the UK's leadership role in establishing the NATO Trust Fund for the destruction of surplus weapons in Montenegro, which has recently started to operate.
Defence Secretary Fellon voiced expectations that Montenegro will soon become a NATO member state, expressing pleasure upon the dynamics of the ratification of Montenegro's NATO Accession Protocol. An extensive bilateral cooperation in defence sector will be improved by signing the memorandum, he pointed out.
