Munich: PM Marković meets with Slovakia’s Miroslav Lajčak, Slovenia’s Borut Pahor and UK’s Alan Duncan

Munich, Germany (18 February 2017) – Regardless of the opposition’s boycott, continuing attempts aimed at compromising institutions and persistent obstructions, the political situation in Montenegro is stable, Prime Minister Duško Marković emphasised during the meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovakia Miroslav Lajčak.

The two officials raised concerns regarding the current situation in the Western Balkans, stressing the need for strengthening cooperation and intensifying the dialogue in order to resolve issues in a constructive manner. Therefore, Slovak DPM Lajčak highlighted the importance of Montenegro’s role as a factor of stability in the region, adding that the country has enough capacity and potential to deal with a crisis and continue overcoming the challenges. 

PM Marković thanked Mr Lajčak for the continuing support Slovakia provides to Montenegro, stressing Montenegro’s strong commitment to pursuing the EU and NATO integration process, as both processes are important for preserving stability not only in Montenegro and the region, but in entire Europe as well.

During the separate meetings with the president of Slovenia Bort Pahor and the UK’s Minister of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Alan Duncan, PM Marković stressed that Montenegro has opened 26 negotiation chapters, adding that two more chapters are ready for opening negotiations. 

The meetings also discussed Montenegro’s progress towards the European and Euro-Atlantic accession processes and PM Marković took the opportunity to thank the officials of the both states for the continuing support they provide to the country’s reform process towards joining the EU and NATO.

UK’s Minister Duncan and Slovenian President Pahor voiced belief that their two countries will continue cherishing good bilateral cooperation with Montenegro, particularly when it comes to the reform process in the rule of law and security system.
