Deputy Prime Minister Milutin Simović: Government’s 100 days of success

Podgorica, Montenegro (7 March 2017) — Deputy Prime Minister for the economic policy and financial system Milutin Simović remarked that the 41st Government of Montenegro did not enjoy a privilege of political calm in its first one hundred days of work and that in this period it delivered the main lines of its proclaimed policy.

“These were 100 days of intense activity and devoted work of each Cabinet member, teamwork that was marked by excellent team atmosphere“ — DPM Simović said in his guest appearance at the morning news of the national broadcaster RTCG.

The DPM said that on the domestic policy front the Government has shown openness and launched communication with all segments of the society — from the business community, to the Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts, the academic community, the non-governmental sector and social partners, with the objective of uniting the Montenegrin society in overcoming the challenges through a broad consensus.

“The Government has contributed to the attainment of new democratic values and new standards” — DPM Simović has noted.

He said that one of the most important tasks domestically was the Government’s adoption of the Fiscal Consolidation Plan whose aim it is to reduce the public debt and the budget deficit.

“In selecting the necessary measures we did not opt for populist measures, fully aware that populist decisions can be politically profitable only in the short term. We chose to face the financial situation realistically, but with a pronounced sensibility for the vulnerable social groups,” Deputy Prime Minister Simović underlined.

On the foreign policy front, the first 100 days of the Government were marked by intensive diplomatic activity, particularly in the areas of European and Euro-Atlantic integration and cooperation within the Western Balkans region, the DPM said.

The main objectives remain: domestically, these are a higher degree of security, a higher trust of the investment community, a higher degree of the rule of law, and speedier economic growth aimed at creating more jobs and ensuring better quality of life for citizens. In the area of foreign policy, the priorities are European and Euro-Atlantic integration, the DPM noted.

“We are certain that by the end of May the process of ratification will be completed also in the Parliament of Montenegro and that this will allow Montenegro to participate at the NATO Summit in May as the new member of the Alliance,” Deputy Prime Minister Milutin Simović said at the morning news of the national broadcaster RTCG.
