FMs Darmanović, Erjavec: Excellent relations between Montenegro and Slovenia, no outstanding issues

Ljubljana, Slovenia (9 March 2017) -- Minister of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro Srđan Darmanović paid an official visit to Slovenia at the invitation of his counterpart Karl Erjavec.

Two ministers agreed on that bilateral relations between Montenegro and Slovenia are excellent and without outstanding issues, based on traditionally good, friendly and partnership relations. Minister Darmanović thanked Mr Erjavec for Slovenia's continuous support for integration processes of Montenegro, particularly emphasising Slovenia's role as a contact country for NATO for two terms, as well as expert assistance provided in the EU accession process.

Foreign ministers paid special attention to economic cooperation, concluding that there is room for strengthening economic ties, especially in the fields of tourism and sustainable development, energy and agriculture. They said that the forthcoming session of the Mixed Commission for Economic Cooperation between the two countries, scheduled for 10 and 11 April in Ljubljana, will help intensify cooperation.

Furthermore, they exchanged views on the organisation of joint session of the Montenegrin and Slovenian cabinets, which would be an opportunity to define common future projects with the aim of strengthening the effective economic cooperation. The joint session would be also an opportunity for the ceremonial unveiling of the monument to France Prešern in Podgorica.

Minister Darmanović also meet in Ljubljana with the Slovenian top officials - President Borut Pahor and Prime Minister Miro Cerar. The officials pledged full support for Montenegro's European and Euro-Atlantic bids, hopeful that cooperation at all levels, especially in the economic field, will be enhanced in the future. President Pahor and Prime Minister Cerar expressed expectation that the process of ratification of the Protocol on the Accession of Montenegro to NATO will be completed as quickly as possible and that Montenegro will soon become a full-fledged members of the Alliance.
