Minister Darmanović participates in Meeting of Ministers of Global Coalition on Defeat of ISIS
Minister of Foreign Affairs Srđan Darmanović participated today in a foreign ministers meeting of the Global Coalition on the Defeat of ISIS, hosted by the US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson. This was the first meeting of this kind, which brought together senior officials of 68 countries participating in the Coalition.
The foreign ministers discussed the results achieved in the fight against ISIS, actions and operations that are in progress, as well as further priorities. The coalition partners expressed their willingness to continue to financially contribute to humanitarian needs on the ground and other activities which will lead to the liberation and stabilisation of the remaining occupied territories in Iraq and Syria.
On the sidelines of the conference, Minister Darmanović had brief meetings with US Secretary of State Tillerson, US Secretary of Defense James Mattis, as well as with other officials from the EU Member States, NATO and the region.
Minister Darmanović met at the Pentagon with acting Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Laura Cooper. The officials expressed the belief that the US Senate will ratify Montenegro's NATO Accession Protocol as soon as possible, which will represent recognition of Montenegro's efforts in reaching NATO standards and adopting the values of the transatlantic community.
The officials commended the defence cooperation between the two countries and expressed confidence that the strategic partnership between the two countries will be further strengthened through Montenegro's full membership in NATO and joint activities regarding implementation of NATO's objectives.
