Podgorica, Montenegro (28 March 2017) -- Minister of Labour and Social Welfare Kemal Purišić said earlier today that despite the fact that beneficiaries of social benefits for mothers with three children or more have ended their protests, the Government will be working towards finding a correct and comprehensive solution to the problem that was created by the passing of an unsustainable law in the Parliament.
"I wish to express satisfaction with the fact that the maternal social benefits beneficiaries are no longer protesting and I want to voice appreciation for all the beneficiaries who did not join the political gatherings aimed at putting, with the support of some media outlets, tremendous pressure on the Government to make concessions in relation to the decision on reduction of social payments approved by the Government as part of the remedial measures for the budget spending in 2017," Minister Purišić stressed.
He also noted that such social payments do not exist anywhere else in the world and that they totaled approx. EUR 60 million in 2016, which is an amount that surpasses all social payments. Minister Purišić added that despite all this, the Government is working hard towards finding a comprehensive and correct solution and that he expects a working group to come out with a proposed solution before the Government and the Montenegrin public.
"Government finds only those solutions that are not the result of pressures, especially politically motivated ones, acceptable - the solutions that are sustainable and equitable, that will not jeopardise public finances, in particular the Government’s need to regularly pay out pensions and other social benefits," Minister of Labour and Social Welfare Kemal Purišić concluded.
