Minister Darmanović opens Montenegro's consulate in Moldova

Moldavia, Chisinau (5 April 2017) – During his official visit to Moldova, Minister of Foreign Affairs Srđan Darmanović met with Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Andrei Galbur.

In the context of the tenth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, the two officials commended the good and friendly relations between Montenegro and Moldova. They emphasised the importance of the activities undertaken in terms of strengthening bilateral cooperation in the framework of regional initiatives by signing a number of agreements in the economy field. The two officials announced the continuation of boosting the contractual basis, which will further enhance cooperation in areas of mutual interest such as tourism, education, science and culture.

Minister Darmanović stressed the significance of the prospective Montenegro's membership in NATO, in particular for reinforcing regional stability and reiterated the commitment of the Government of Montenegro to further reforms towards EU membership and economic growth.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova Andrei Galbur said that Montenegro is a leader in the region when it comes to integration processes, underlining Moldova's interest in transferring the experience of Montenegro in the negotiation process.

Montenegrin Foreign Minister also met in Chisinau with Prime Minister of of Moldova Pavel Filip, with whom he discussed bilateral relations and political situation in the region and beyond.

Minister Darmanović and Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova Anatol Vangheli officially opened the Consulate of Montenegro in Chisinau, headed by Honorary Consul of former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova Andrei Stratan. It was noted that the opening of the Consulate will contribute to deepening economic and cultural ties between the two countries.
