Berane, Montenegro (7 April 2017) – Minister of Labour and Social Welfare Kemal Purišić, Head of Political Section at the US Embassy in Podgorica Leslie Freriksen and Mayor of Berane Dragoslav Šćekić laid earlier today the foundation stone for the construction of 94 housing units in the settlement Rudeš in Berane, within the Regional housing project for refugees and internally displaced persons in Montenegro.
Minister Purišić stressed that that the realisation of this subproject will close two centers, Rudeš I and Rudeš II, and provide durable and sustainable solutions to their inhabitants. On this occasion, the Minister especially thanked the Council of Europe Development Bank, European Commission, US Embassy, UNHCR, OSCE and other partner countries and donors for the overall contribution they have made in the development of the Regional Housing Programme.
The work on this subproject, whose total value is 3,990,649 EUR – 3,575,779 of which are donor funds – began in December 2016 and is fully implemented as planned. More than 1500 housing units for refugees and internally displaced persons were built in the previous period through the number of projects funded by the Government of Montenegro, NGOs, international partners and donors.
CEB representative Igor Burazin, UNHCR representative to Montenegro Roberta Montevecchi and Deputy Head of the OSCE Mission to Montenegro Dan Redford also spoke at the event.
