Meeting of Political Directors of NATO countries, chaired by Deputy Secretary General of NATO Rose Gottemoeller, was held on the 2nd and 3rd of February at NATO Headquarters in Brussels.

Defence Policy Director Ivan Mašulović was present at the meeting on behalf of the Ministry of Defence of Montenegro, whereas the Chief of the Department for Strategic Defense Planning, Colonel Ljubomir Bojovic and Defense Advisors at the Mission of Montenegro to NATO, Radmila Perović and Marina Otašević were members of the delegation.

As an introduction to the upcoming meeting of Defense Ministers of NATO countries', political directors exchanged views and opinions on issues at the very top of the Alliance's priorities, namely the ability of the Alliance to respond to contemporary threats and adapt to a changing security environment, strengthening of collective defense and defining common Responses to potential threats, as well as cooperation with the European Union in areas of common interest.

On that occasion, political directors expressed satisfaction with the progress achieved in the implementation of the decisions made at the Warsaw Summit and noted that the transatlantic co-operation is the essence of the Alliance’s success and credibility. They also agreed that NATO and the EU must act coherently, given the inseparability of security, as well as the nature of the challenges faced by both organizations.

On the margins of the meeting of political directors, Mašulović had meetings with colleagues from Great Britain, Germany, Italy, Greece and Croatia, where they agreed upon more intensive bilateral co-operation in several areas, at all levels. Mašulović has also informed the present about Montenegro's activities, both on the domestic and international level, with the aim of preparation for full-fledged membership. The attendees welcomed the firm commitment of Montenegro to the reform processes and expressed the confidence that the process of ratification of the Protocol on Accession would soon be completed by other members.
