Belgrade: The first bilateral consultations in the field of defence between the Ministries of Defence of Montenegro and the Republic of Serbia

Representatives of the Ministries of Defense of Montenegro and the Republic of Serbia have met in Belgrade for the First bilateral consultations in the field of defence. The meeting at the level of Chiefs of International Cooperation was an opportunity to discuss the promotion of bilateral cooperation and define joint activities in 2017.

During the meeting, parties discussed the situation in the region and migrant crisis, cooperation with the European Union and NATO (PfP Program), cooperation between the two countries in the field of defence, and through the participation in multinational operations.

During the consultations, Head of the International Military Cooperation of the Ministry of Defense of Serbia, Captain Milan Konjikovac, commented on the possibilities for improvement of the existing defence cooperation between the two countries. He stressed the importance of continuity of high-level visits in the coming period, adding that the upcoming visit of the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Serbia Zoran Đorđević to Montenegro, is an additional impulse to the development of good bilateral relations.

Head of the International Cooperation Department in the Ministry of Defence of Montenegro, Lieutenant Colonel Velibor Bakrač, informed about the priorities of Montenegro related to the European and Euro-Atlantic integration, as well as the results achieved in this process. He pointed to the continued commitment to the implementation of the reform of the defence and security system, as well as involvement in international missions and operations under the auspices of NATO, EU and UN, where Montenegro is actively contributing to the preservation of global peace and security. He stressed that Montenegro will remain firmly committed to regional military cooperation.

During the talks, Heads of the Delegations agreed and signed a bilateral defence cooperation plan for 2017.

Members of Montenegrin delegation included, in addition to Lt. Col. Bakrač, Lieutenant (N) Saša Čepić, as a representative of the Army of Montenegro and Marija Zeković, Adviser at the Ministry of Defence of Montenegro.
