Ioannina, Greece (12 May 2017) -- Today ministerial meeting of the Adriatic-Ionian region in Ioannina confirmed the decision on approving 35 projects from the first call published within the ADRION programme. Montenegro, although the smallest member states participating in the programme, has achieved an excellent result by taking part in 18 out of 35 projects. This provides Montenegro, in addition to a fixed sum coming each year from the EU funds, with additional $ 2 EUR million, due to the excellent project proposals the partners from Montenegro have developed in the previous period.
These projects relate to very specific areas, such as tourism, cooperation between businesses, educational institutions, and support for the development of maritime transport. Particularly noteworthy is the Port of Bar, which will participate in 7 out of 18 projects concerning boosting transport, maritime mobility and port capacity. Ministry of Economy will participate in the implementation of two projects for small and medium-sized enterprises. University of Montenegro - Institute of Marine Biology will be able to take part in two projects related to networking countries in the context of fisheries and aquaculture, as well as in the fight against polluters in the Adriatic and Ionian seas. Tourist Organisation of Montenegro will take part in developing the Adriatic-Ionian brand in tourism. Furthermore, the Lipska pećina company has received additional funding for the development of their tourism offer in the framework of the Adriatic Caves project.
