Minister Damjanović pays official visit to Republic of Slovenia

Ljubljana, Slovenia (15 May 2017) -- Minister of Science Sanja Darmanović met today with Minister of Education, Science and Sport of the Republic of Slovenia Maja Makovec Brenčič to present the Initiative for the establishment of the International Institute for Sustainable Technologies in Southeastern Europe with the mission of Science for Peace.

The main objective of the Institute is to promote and enhance the cooperation between science, technology and industry, to provide a platform for the development of education and training of young scientists and engineers, but also the transfer of technology knowledge from European laboratories such as CERN and other centres. Due to networking of different activities, as Minister Damjanović stated, the Initiative would be unique in whole region and another successful example of CERN model.

Minister Damjanović stressed the full support of the European Commission, which was presented at the recently held meeting with EU Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation Carlos Moedas in Brussels.

A joint assessment of the meeting was that the Initiative is of great importance for the region, and that such a project would significantly affect the improvement of living standards and reducing unemployment.

Minister of Education, Science and Sport of the Republic of Slovenia Maja Makovec Brenčič said that the Initiative would be an important incentive for the development of the scientific community and scientific capacity in the region. As she emphasised, Slovenian medical community is very interested in the Initiative, i.e. Hadron Therapy of cancer, which is one of the options provided in the Initiative, and offers full support for its further implementation.
