NATO SG Stoltenberg: We look forward to formally welcoming Montenegro as 29th Ally
Brussels, Belgium (24 May 2017) – Secretary General of NATO Jens Stoltenberg held today press conference ahead of tomorrow's Meeting of NATO Heads of State and Government. SG Stoltenberg noted that it will be short but important meeting, which will bring together leaders of 28 allied countries and send a strong message of unity and solidarity.
The Secretary General stressed that Prime Minister Duško Marković will join the meeting tomorrow.
"The parliaments of all 28 Allies and Montenegro have now ratified the country's accession to NATO. This is a step forward for Montenegro; for stability in the Western Balkans; and for our vision of a Europe whole, free and at peace. We look forward to formally welcoming Montenegro as our 29th Ally in early June," Stoltenberg said.
Answering the journalist's question about open door policy, SG Stoltenberg said that welcoming Montenegro shows that NATO's door is open.
