PM Marković in Brussels: Montenegro is ready and has capacity to meet NATO membership requirements
Brussels, Belgium (25 May 2017) – Montenegro is ready and has capacity to meet NATO membership requirements, thus contributing to peace and stability worldwide, Prime Minister Duško Marković highlighted in Brussels.
PM Marković will attend the meeting of NATO Heads of State and Government which is about to start soon. He also attended the ceremony of opening the new Headquarters in Brussels, which was also attended, inter alia, by presidents of the USA and France, Donald Trump and Emmanuel Macron.
After NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has sent a formal invitation to Montenegro to join the North Atlantic Treaty, Montenegro will formally become the 29th NATO member state by depositing ratification instrument to the US State Department. The ceremony of raising the Montenegrin flag at the NATO Headquarters is scheduled for 7 June.
President of Croatia Kolinda Grabar Kitarović commented on Montenegro’s membership in the Alliance: “You’re almost a full – fledged NATO member state. I am glad that you are at the same table today,” Ms Grabar Kitarović said to the Montenegrin media, wishing Montenegro a warm welcome.
