Defence Minister Bošković with US Senator Johnson: Montenegro and US to boost cooperation in coming period

Podgorica, Montenegro (29 May 2017) -- Minister of Defence Predrag Bošković met earlier today with Chairman of the Subcommittee on Europe and Regional Security Cooperation of the US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations Ron Johnson.

Minister Bošković highlighted that Montenegro has implemented reforms related to the defence, adding that it will continue making efforts aimed at improving the national security system as a full-fledged NATO member state, thus contributing to the regional and international peace and stability. He also informed senator Johnson that the Ministry of Defence and the Army of Montenegro will meet the requirements after the formal membership in the Alliance, adding that Montenegro will continue promoting the importance of NATO membership for the Western Balkans. Minister Bošković thanked Mr Johnson for the support and contribution to promoting Montenegro's membership in NATO, voicing gratitude for the US overall support in the field of defence. 

Senator Johnson congratulated Minister Bošković on the achievement of the main foreign policy goal, noting that Montenegro deserves to be 29th NATO member state. He stressed that the US will make efforts in boosting bilateral cooperation in the coming period. Montenegro has successfully coped with the negative foreign influences, senator Johnson emphasised, adding that the country will contribute to strengthening good neighbourhood relations and preserving peace and stability once it becomes NATO member state.
