Berlin, Germany (30 May 2017) -- During his visit to Berlin, Minister of Foreign Affairs Srđan Darmanović met with Chancellor Angela Merkel's Foreign and Security Policy Adviser Christoph Heusgen.

Noting that Montenegro has successfully completed the Euro - Atlantic accession process, Mr Heusgen congratulated the country on the forthcoming NATO membership.

The meeting discussed modalities for using mechanisms of the Berlin process in a more efficient manner, emphasising the importance of the forthcoming Summit in Trieste. In that regard, Minister Darmanović highlighted that Montenegro is interested in boosting cooperation within the existing initiatives.

The two officials agreed that institutionalisation of new forms of the regional connectedness should not be an alternative to the integration process. They highlighted that progress of every country in terms of pursuing the European path should be measured only by the achieved results, voicing belief that any potential slowdown could have negative outcomes.

The meeting also discussed regional security issues, with a particular emphasis on the importance of the EU and NATO active engagement in the Western Balkans.

Minister Darmanović also met with Chairman of the Munich Security Conference Wolfgang Ischinger and gave a lecture regarding Montenegro's membership in the Alliance at the German Council on Foreign relations.
