Podgorica, Montenegro (2 June 2017) -- The Government of Montenegro will continue to support the integration of the LGBT community into society and will assist in the provision of social services that are important to members of that population, Prime Minister Duško Marković said at a meeting with the President of the Steering Committee of LGBT Forum “Progress” Bojana Jokić.

The representative of LGBT Forum “Progress” Jokić praised strategic and legislative framework that is in force in Montenegro. She emphasised the excellent cooperation with the Ministry for Human and Minority Rights, law enforcement authorities and the Ombudsman, and pointed to the need for state support in the work of shelters and social centre, which no longer have funds.

Expressing satisfaction over the progress in this area and the commitment of institutions, the Prime Minister said that the Government will support and assist in the implementation of activities related to the reactivation of shelters and social centre.

He added that the rights and integration of LGBT people is important in the process of maturation of the Montenegrin society, underlining the need to further strengthen community awareness in order to eliminate prejudice against people of different sexual orientation so that all citizens can enjoy equal respect for their rights and freedoms.
