EU rule of law expert mission in Montenegro

Podgorica, Montenegro (5 June 2017) -- EU expert mission, which will inspect the work of the Agency for Prevention of Corruption, will visit Montenegro in the period from 5 to 9 June 2017.

On that occasion, experts from Slovenia and Latvia will hold a series of meetings with representatives of the negotiating team for Chapter 23, the Agency for Prevention of Corruption and the State Audit Institution. These meetings will be an opportunity for direct exchange of information on specific issues related to the functioning of the legislative and institutional framework in the area of prevention of corruption, as well as on the capacity of the Agency for Prevention of Corruption and the initial results in its work.

Visits of experts is an opportunity to demonstrate the results of Montenegro's institutions in this area due to the fact that the Agency for Prevention of Corruption was established in January 2016. Exchange of opinions and statements of experts will serve to Montenegrin authorities to achieve better results in the rule of law.

Visits of expert missions are part of a new approach in negotiations with the EU and are regular mechanism by which the European Commission evaluates situation in Chapter 23 – Judiciary and Fundamental Rights.
