Bošković, Gajdoš: Montenegro and Slovak Republic to intensify defence cooperation as allied countries

Podgorica, Montenegro (6 June 2017) -- Minister of Defence Predrag Bošković met today with the Minister of Defence of the Slovak Republic Peter Gajdoš, who is on an official visit to Montenegro. The officials discussed the joint action within the Alliance and the possibility of further cooperation between the two countries in the field of defence.

The two ministers expressed great satisfaction with yesterday's formalisation of Montenegro's accession to NATO, with the belief that our country's membership in the Alliance will contribute to the geopolitical stability of the region by reducing tensions at a historically unstable area. Ministers Bošković and Gajdoš pointed out that the cooperation between Montenegro and Slovakia in the field of defence is at a high level, but as an allied countries they expect its further improvement.

The Montenegrin Minister pointed out that the Slovak Republic was one of the most important partners of our country on the path of Euro-Atlantic integration. He thanked his Slovakian counterpart for being the first Minister of Defence of NATO member states to visit Montenegro following its official accession to the Alliance, thus giving added significance to one of the most important moments of recent Montenegrin history. He also stressed that this is perceived as a special gesture of appreciation and additional support.

Minister Gajdoš congratulated Montenegro and Montenegrin people for achieved historic success, underlining that our country can count on the unconditional support of the Slovak Republic on its European path, as well.

The press conference, which was held after the meeting, emphasised that Montenegro is yet to face a significant obligations which include meeting the NATO tasks in favour of peace and security in the world.

“Montenegro in NATO means a stable region. A stable Balkans is certainly in the interest of Russia,” Minister Bošković concluded, responding to one of the journalist’s questions.
