Podgorica, Montenegro (9 June 2017) – Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Policy and Financial System, Minister of Finance Darko Radunović and Minister of Labour and Social Welfare Kemal Purišić presented earlier today additional fiscal consolidation measures adopted at yesterday’s Cabinet session.

This Strategy represents the Government’s willingness to tackle in a more responsible manner challenges related to pursuing the development vision: the achievement of the financial stability, sustainable economic growth and creation of preconditions for improving the quality of life of the citizens, DPM Simović emphasised.

DPM Simović explained that the Government has chosen measures which will provide the best results, namely the creation of the budget surplus, establishment of declining trend of the public debt, stable economic growth, growth of the economic competitiveness, preconditions for implementing investments and creating new jobs, pension adjustments and more equitable distribution of social funds for those who need it the most.

Finance Minister Darko Radunović spoke about the Law on Enforcement of Decision of the Constitutional Court of Montenegro related to the provisions of the Law on Social and Child Protection. The aforementioned Law, adopted by the Government at yesterday's session, has determined the legal status of the beneficiaries of the right to compensation on the basis of the birth of three or more children, thus removing discriminatory shortcomings created by the implementation of the unconstitutional provisions of the Law.

When it comes to the child care and protection, Minister of Labour and Social Welfare Purišić stressed that the Law on Amendments to the Law on Social and Child Protection will result in better redistribution of the financial benefits to the persons in social need.
