PM Marković, NATO ambassadors: Montenegro achieves strategic goal by joining NATO which contributes to regional stability
Prime Minister Duško Marković and ambassadors of NATO member states assessed at the last meeting that by joining the Alliance Montenegro achieved an important strategic goal, which contributes to the stability of the Western Balkans.
"We will, alongside members from our region, I believe, give new impetus to resolving regional issues and seek to contribute to the consolidation of peace and stability with our example and influence. We will promote the continuation of the enlargement policy; we will remain very active in the work of the so-called A-5 (the Atlantic Charter) which will, I believe, strongly contribute to the further expansion of Euro-Atlantic family," PM Marković said.
The Prime Minister thanked the Member States on the rapid ratification of the Accession Protocol and especially envoys of NATO countries to Montenegro, both current and former, while many ambassadors emphasised the excellent cooperation with Montenegrin state authorities in its process of Euro-Atlantic integration.
The special gratitude, Prime Minister Marković said, we owe to the United States for strategic partnership.
The Prime Minister reiterated that Montenegro's priority now is European integration and many ambassadors expressed support to Montenegro in this process.
"Montenegro has in 2006 publicly promoted its foreign policy goals – fostering good neighbourly relations and the path towards the EU and NATO. Montenegro did not only develop plans for the future but also implemented them. Two of the three main goals have been already achieved. The only goal remaining is the European integration. And the third goal will be achieved if Montenegro continues at this pace. You have the unconditional support of Hungary, and I believe of the others," Ambassador of Hungary Krisztian Posa said, who was the host of the meeting as representative of the contact country of Montenegro to NATO.
