Minister Darmanović, UN's Thomson: Montenegro is credible partner

Minister of Foreign Affairs Srđan Darmanović met with President of the 71st Session of the United Nations General Assembly Peter Thomson in New York.

The meeting with President Thomson was an opportunity to exchange views on current global challenges, implementation of the Development Agenda and the Climate Agreement, as well as the need for effective UN action.

Minister Darmanović expressed satisfaction with the cooperation between Montenegro and the UN system, which is continually developing, and emphasised the commitment of the Government of Montenegro to continue contributing to the efforts undertaken globally. He stressed Montenegro's strong commitment to sustainable development, on which basis the development policy of the Government is based. Minister Darmanović recalled the successful implementation of key foreign policy priorities, with particular reference to recent membership in NATO.

President of the General Assembly of the UN Thomson congratulated on the NATO membership, adding that Montenegro has proven to be a credible partner that contributes to the strengthening of democracy in the Balkans. President Thomson praised the recognisable image that Montenegro enjoys within the Organization, as well as its active involvement in multilateral frameworks, especially in relation to the challenges of maintaining peace and security.

The officials agreed that the implementation of the Agenda 2030 and the Climate Agreement will determine the quality of the international community's response to the current challenges.
