Rule of Law Council holds its 6th session

The Rule of Law Council, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Zoran Pažin, held today its 6th session, which discussed the current results and the upcoming obligations of Montenegro in the process of accession to the European Union in the field of the rule of law, focusing on negotiating chapters 23 and 24.

The Council especially emphasised the importance of timely and quality realisation of each individual measure from chapters 23 and 24. Special attention in the discussion was dedicated to activities whose implementation will contribute to the fulfillment of 83 transition benchmarks aimed at obtaining criteria for closing negotiations in chapters 23 and 24.

In this context, the Council paid special attention to the non-paper document on the rule of law, which the European Commission prepared and presented to the member states of the European Union and Montenegro in May this year, which is also available to the general public.

Council President Zoran Pažin reminded that the non-paper also noted that Montenegro has achieved significant and measurable results in the legislative and institutional sense, as well as in establishing an initial balance of the achieved results in the field of suppression of high-level corruption and some forms of organised crime. The President of the Council requested the maximum commitment and responsibility of the institutions in fulfilling the defined obligations and announced that they will continuously monitor both the dynamics and the quality of realisation of each obligation.

The members of the Council considered and determined concrete activities and responsibilities of the relevant institutions that will contribute to meeting the obligations of the negotiating process in the field of the rule of law and which will be continuously monitored from the operational level of the negotiating structure.
