Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Milutin Simović said earlier today that the competent body of the European Commission decided to assign EU export numbers to Montenegrin food producers.

Simović said that obtained EU export numbers represent a guarantee of quality and food safety not only for export to the EU countries, but also a significant guarantee and competitive advantage for exports both in the countries of the region and around the world.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture said that the EC's decision was a result of years of valuable and dedicated work. He expressed belief that this joint step would represent an additional incentive for numerous producers, who are already working hard on achieving standards and raising competitiveness, which, as before, will be fully supported by the Government of Montenegro and the Ministry of Agriculture.

Minister Simović said that a procedure has been launched to place Montenegrin producers of raw milk and milk products on the EU list of exporters, adding that he hopes the procedure will be finished in the next three or four months.

All these activities have the primary goal of providing consumers with quality and safe food in accordance with the most demanding standards. As he estimated, the common goal is to open the EU market for Montenegrin food producers by reaching these standards.
