PM Duško Marković to attend Western Balkans Summit in Trieste
Prime
Minister Duško Marković will
participate in the meeting of the heads of state and government of the
countries of the Western Balkans Six (WB6) within the Berlin Process on
Wednesday, 12 July 2017, at the invitation of the Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni.
Heads
of governments of six countries of the Western Balkans, as well as the
Austrian, German, French, Croatian and Slovenian prime ministers are invited to
attend the Summit, hosted by the Prime Minister of Italy. The invitation was
also addressed to the United Kingdom's Prime Minister in the capacity of the
host of the next Summit in 2018, as well as to the President of the European
Commission Jean-Claude Juncker, High
Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini, Vice President of
the European Commission in charge of the Energy Union Maroš Šefčovič, EU Commissioner for Neighbourhood Policy and
Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn
and EU Commissioner for Mobility and Transport Violeta Bulc.
Prime
Minister Marković will speak at the plenary session.
The
Summit will adopt the Action Plan for the Regional Economic Area which
arises from the commitments undertaken under the CEFTA Agreement and the SEE
2020 Strategy and which is based on the rules and principles of the European Union
reflected in the Stabilisation and Association Agreements.
The
Agreement on the establishment of the Transport Community is expected to be signed – a document
obliging the six Western Balkan countries to apply European directives in the
field of road and railway transport.
The heads
of governments of the six Western Balkan countries will adopt a Declaration
that reflects a strong commitment to further activities in the area of regional
cooperation within the Western Balkans Six and the European perspective of the countries
in the region.
Separate
meetings of the ministers of foreign affairs, economy and transport of the
Western Balkan countries will be organised in the framework of the Summit.
Within the Summit, Civil Society Forum, Workshop of anti-coruption institutions
of the Western Balkans and Business Forum will be organised, as well.
The Summit of the Western Balkans Six is a good opportunity for further improvement of the progress and results achieved by our country at the national, regional and European level, as well as for the exchange of views with the heads of governments and ministers of foreign affairs, economy and transport on the current situation in the region.
Participation
in the Summit will also be an opportunity to confirm positive attitudes of
Montenegro on the realisation of the Main Traffic Network, that will enable
better connections with our neighbors and with the EU, as well as for the
presentation of priority projects for Montenegro.
