Statement by Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro strongly condemns the unveiling of the commemorative monument to Puniša Račić.

This retrograde individual act, which glorifies the character and work of the assassin of King Nikola and the killer of Croatian deputies in the then National Assembly of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, was realised without the knowledge of the Government and state authorities of Montenegro.

The competent state authorities will take all necessary, legally determined activities in order to remove the mentioned monument, which insults not only the deepest feelings of the Croatian people and the state, but also seeks to deepen political divisions in Montenegro.
