Minister of Interior Mevludin Nuhodžić visited today the sites threatened by fires in the Coastal region and assessed that the situation is serious, international assistance was therefore requested, but that there is no reason to fear and panic.

My final message is that there is no reason for fear and panic. I believe that our services, our institutions, with international assistance, will control the situation in the following days, and I believe that these fires will be extinguished, regardless of the extremely unfavourable weather conditions, Minister Nuhodžić said.

The Minister said that we are all witnesses of the great sacrifice and professionalism of the rescue services, the police, army members, citizens and the private sector.

"Complex meteorological conditions, strong wind and hot weather affect fires, and statistics show that citizens' negligence is often the cause of the fire," the Minister said.

Minister Nuhodžić reiterated his appeal to the citizens to report any suspicion of arson.

"We have today requested assistance from the European Commission Civil Protection Mechanism that consists of 34 countries. Our request is already being considered in Brussels and there is a possibility that firefighting aircraft might be sent tonight," Minister Nuhodžić stressed.
