Lyon, France (21 July 2017) -- Interior Minister Mevludin Nuhodžić met earlier today with Interpol Secretary-General Jurgen Stock.

Visit to the Interpol's headquarters in Lyon was an opportunity to exchange views on global security challenges and threats, with particular reference to border security, the fight against serious and organised crime, prevention and suppression of terrorism and the fight against computer crime. The meeting also discussed mechanisms for further improvement of cooperation at the operational level, through even more intensive use of Interpol global databases. Specific activities and identified areas have been agreed in which Montenegro can provide a quality contribution to the implementation of the strategic priorities and objectives of this law enforcement organisation. In that regard, it was jointly noted that NCB Interpol Podgorica plays an important role as part of the international data exchange platform.

Expressing satisfaction with Montenegro's active participation in the international police network, Secretary-General Stock pointed out that Montenegro is among the most active users of Interpol's databases, and that the operation, which was coordinated by the General Secretariat of Interpol, and directed against illegal weapon in the countries of the Western Balkans, is an example of professional cooperation and efficient exchange of information. He particularly emphasised the fact that all border crossings in Montenegro are bound in a unique system that allows direct search of Interpol bases. Furthermore, the Secretary-General praised the cooperation with Montenegro and conveyed Interpol's willingness to continue its support in strengthening the capacity of the Montenegrin police.

Pointing out the importance the Ministry of the Intrerior and the Police Authority attach to cooperation with the Interpol, Minister Nuhodžić expressed gratitude for the permanent support, which is an important acknowledgment for the previous efforts and contribution of Montenegro to the strengthening of global security. He stressed that the Montenegrin police is fully committed to respecting Interpol standards and continuously monitoring the development of new services to improve international police cooperation, through participation in all projects developed by the General Secretariat.
