US Congress Delegation visits Montenegro: With rule of law to economic development
Podgorica,
Montenegro (1 September 2017) -- Deputy Prime Minister for Political System,
Internal and Foreign Policy Zoran Pažin met today with a delegation of the
United States Congress, led by Congressman Doug Lamborn.
Pointing
to the importance of the visit of members of the House of Representatives of
the United States, DPM Pažin said that their stay in Montenegro is a testimony
of full commitment to strengthening the friendly and partner relations between
the two countries. He expressed the belief that such a relationship will be
upgraded with new joint activities that are important for the stability and
prosperity of our country. DPM Pažin informed the distinguished guests about
the plans for further work of Montenegro in the field of the rule of law, in
order to create a safe environment for continuing economic growth and improving
the standards of living of citizens in Montenegro.
Speaking
about the political and security environment in Montenegro, DPM Pažin took the
opportunity to underline the clear goal of Montenegro to continue to represent
and affect good neighborly relations, emphasising the importance of US support
in this political context.
When
it comes to regional security challenges, the officials agreed that only a
clear commitment to respecting the principles of democracy can be a guarantee
for a stable social and economic development in the twenty-first century.
Also,
both sides agreed that Montenegro's membership in NATO has created the basis
for further strengthening of economic cooperation between the USA and
Montenegro.
In
addition to Congressman Lamborn, the US delegation included Congressmen: Andy
Barr (Kentucky), John Shimkus (Illinois), Steve Cohen (Tennessee) and Buddy
Carter (Georgia).
