Minister of Foreign Affairs Darmanović participates in Bled Strategic Forum

Minister of Foreign Affairs Srđan Darmanović participated earlier today in the Bled Strategic Forum, which took place in Bled on 4 – 5 September. The Forum was organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia and Centre for European Perspective.
This year’s Forum titled “The new reality” was focused on finding modalities to adapt to the changes in the global environment and also on promoting innovations and digital economy for the sustainable future.
The Forum discussed various issues important for the region of the South East Europe, particularly various possibilities for boosting economic cooperation, strengthening infrastructural connectedness and reaching the stronger coordination between the EU member states and aspiring countries. Migrant crisis and terrorist threats were also one of the topics discussed during the Forum and all the participants emphasised the need for implementing activities related to preventing and combating these challenges.
Montenegro’s progress in the EU accession process and the country’s contribution to the stability and security of the Western Balkans was commended in the context of the integration process of the countries in the region and the existing dynamics and challenges arising in pursuing this path.
An informal meeting of the countries participating in the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP) and the meeting of the ministers of foreign affairs of the Western Balkans Fund member countries were organised within the Bled Strategic Forum.
During the ministerial meeting of the SEECP countries, Slovenia presented priorities of its presidency, putting an emphasis on the support to the Western Balkan countries in the EU accession process.
The meeting of the ministers of foreign affairs of the Western Balkans Fund member countries was an opportunity for the official inauguration of the Fund with the headquarters in Tirana. Heads of diplomacy of the region commended the launching of the Fund, which represents a mechanism for improving project-based cooperation in the field of culture, cultural heritage, science and research, youth and cross-border cooperation.
Minister Darmanović participated at the panel focused on the EU integration process of the region, relations between the countries, political situation in the EU and functioning of the various region organisations and initiatives.
On the sidelines of the Bled Strategic Forum, Minister Darmanović had separate bilateral meetings with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania Teodor Melesșcanu and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malta Carmelo Abela, as well as the meeting with Secretary General of the EU for the Mediterranean Fathallah Sijilmassi and High EU Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina Valentino Inzko.
