PM Marković meets with newly elected Head of UNICEF Representative in Montenegro Osama Makkavi Khogali

Podgorica, Montenegro (8 September 2017) -- Thanks to the partnership with UNICEF, the Government of Montenegro implemented a number of joint projects that resulted in the implementation of reforms in the field of child protection, Prime Minister Duško Marković said today at the meeting with the newly elected Head of the UNICEF Representative in Montenegro Osama Makkavi Khogali.

The meeting highlighted the importance of improving education. It was stated that the recently adopted set of reforms in this area will create the conditions for a modern educational system that is applicable in the labor market.

Prime Minister Marković pointed out that Montenegro decided to formalise its membership in the Global Partnership to End Violence Against Children, designating the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to coordinate the process of mapping the road at the national level within the framework of this initiative.

Mr. Khogali pointed to the importance of involving the family in the education process and welcomed reforms in the field of social protection and education. In cooperation with the Government of Montenegro, UNICEF will continue to actively support and implement policies to achieve quality, inclusion and protection of the most vulnerable. A special focus will be placed on establishing a monitoring system for the implementation of adopted solutions, as Mr.Khogali said.

The Prime Minister particularly praised the results achieved in cooperation with UNICEF in the areas of de-institutionalisation of children, inclusive education, reform of the juvenile justice system, and the prevention of violence against children.
