Podgorica, Montenegro (14 September 2017) -- Prime Minister Duško Marković met today with the Mayor of Beijing Chen Jining and the delegation of the Capital City of the People's Republic of China.

The Prime Minister said that the relations between Montenegro and China are good and friendly, adding that tomorrow's Forum of the Capital Mayors of Central and Eastern Europe and People's Republic of China, in the presence of the first personality of Beijing, will give these relations a new impetus mainly in the economic field.

Recalling that the Chinese company CRBC is performing works on the motorway – that is the most important infrastructure project in Montenegro – Prime Minister Marković said that this opened the space for entering the next phase of cooperation in which direct Chinese investments will enter in Montenegro. On this occasion, the Prime Minister highlighted the perspective of investments in the fields of energy, tourism and agriculture.

The mayor of Beijing expressed his satisfaction with staying in our country, saying that Montenegro is the first foreign country to visit. He expressed the belief that the motorway, as the first major project of Montenegrin-Chinese cooperation, would serve as an example to companies from the capital of China for their activities in Montenegro. Mayor Chen pointed out that Beijing, as a leading educational centre in China, could offer quality scholarship to students from Montenegro. He also emphasised a certain deeper cooperation between the two capital cities in the field of tourism.

The mayor of Beijing added that a delegation from the capital city of China, including businessmen from 40 Beijing companies, sees the Forum as an opportunity to contract concrete projects and jobs.
