PM Marković meets with Mayor of Beijing Chen Jining
Podgorica,
Montenegro (14 September 2017) -- Prime Minister Duško Marković met today with the Mayor of Beijing Chen Jining and the delegation of the Capital City of the People's Republic of China.
The
Prime Minister said that the relations between Montenegro and China are good
and friendly, adding that tomorrow's Forum of the Capital Mayors of Central and
Eastern Europe and People's Republic of China, in the presence of the first
personality of Beijing, will give these relations a new impetus mainly in the
economic field.
Recalling
that the Chinese company CRBC is performing works on the motorway – that is the most
important infrastructure project in Montenegro – Prime Minister Marković said
that this opened the space for entering the next phase of cooperation in which
direct Chinese investments will enter in Montenegro. On this occasion, the
Prime Minister highlighted the perspective of investments in the fields of
energy, tourism and agriculture.
The mayor
of Beijing expressed his satisfaction with staying in our country, saying that
Montenegro is the first foreign country to visit. He expressed the belief that
the motorway, as the first major project of Montenegrin-Chinese cooperation,
would serve as an example to companies from the capital of China for their
activities in Montenegro. Mayor Chen pointed out that Beijing, as a leading
educational centre in China, could offer quality scholarship to students from
Montenegro. He also emphasised a certain deeper cooperation between the two capital cities in the field of tourism.
The mayor
of Beijing added that a delegation from the capital city of China, including
businessmen from 40 Beijing companies, sees the Forum as an opportunity to
contract concrete projects and jobs.
The meeting
was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Policy and Financial System Milutin Simović and Mayor of the
Capital City Podgorica Slavoljub
Stijepović.
