Minister of Science of Montenegro Dr. Sanja Damjanović took part in the Miločer Development Forum, having a presentation within the panel “The Belt and Road” Initiative and EXPO 2017/2010”, where she introduced those present to the Initiative to establish the international scientific institute for sustainable technologies in the area of South East Europe with the mission of “Science for Peace”.
In the context of this year’s topic of the Forum, the Minister emphasized the importance of networking the region and the international community in order to achieve scientific and economic prosperity in the countries of the region. It is precisely the Initiative to establish the international scientific institute that represents a unique opportunity to unite the scientific and research community, which would result in increased competitiveness in applying for EU grants.
According to Minister Damjanović, the Institute would be a crucial milestone for the economy of the countries of South East Europe. In addition, the project would reduce the outflow of young talents, helping the region to become competitive to the rest of Europe.
The Minister also announced that “Abdus Salam ICTP” Institute from Trieste and the Ministry of Science would organize a Scientific Forum of the Countries of South East Europe under the auspices of UNESCO in January 2018, in line with the decision made during the official visit to the Institute with Professor Herwig Schopper, the creator of the Initiative.
In this context, the Ministry of Science of Montenegro organized a scientific conference in Hotel Avala in Budva last week, where the representatives of line ministries of the countries of South East Europe considered the draft Declaration of Intent that expresses the consent of the countries to the Initiative to establish the institute, which will be officially signed at a ministerial conference at CERN.
The first option is 'Synchrotron Light Source', which enables research in various fields such as biology, chemistry, pharmacology, ecology, geology and engineering, with wide application in various branches of industry. The second option is Hadron Cancer Therapy and Biomedical Research: proton and ion beam accelerators represent the most successful instrument for treating cancer today.
Two groups of scientific experts, who are also members of international commissions, are currently working on the preparation of 'Concept Studies' for both options of the Institute. The experts will present the technical details of the project in late October in Montenegro.
Miločer Development Forum is organized by the Association of Economists and Managers of Montenegro at Grand Hotel Cetinje. The topic of this year’s, 22nd Regional Forum, which will last for two days, is Globalization and the Belt and Road Initiative.
The Association of Economists and Managers of Montenegro organizes the Forum in cooperation with Donja Gorica University and the Baltic Management Development Association.
