PM Marković at Ceremony of Miner's Day: You are pillar of energy stability of Montenegro, Government is working to increase investment in mining
Pljevlja,
Montenegro (23 September 2017) -- Prime Minister Duško Marković told miners in Pljevlja today that the Government
appreciates their commitment and dedication to achieving the best possible results
that directly affect the development of the Montenegrin economy, that the
miners are the pillar of energy stability in Montenegro, because the
exploitation of coal in Pljevlja is one of the leading economic activities in
Montenegro, that the Government is committed to increasing the investment in
mining and thus increasing the miners' living standard.
"I take
the opportunity to send to the miners the most sincere congratulations with the
expression of respect for the mining profession, which is one of the most
difficult and demanding professions in our economy., and to say that the
Government values your commitment and dedication to achieving the best possible
results that directly affect the development of the Montenegrin economy. ...
The miners are the pillar of energy stability of our country, and your results
also significantly contribute to its industrial development. ... We are
committed to increasing investment in mining and increasing the number of
employees and their earnings through the improvement of business opportunities.
And this will directly affect the working conditions and the standard of living
of our miners and their families," the Prime Minister said at the Ceremony on
the occasion of the Miner's Day of Montenegro.
The
Prime Minister said that Montenegro has significant coal reserves, primarily in
the Pljevlja and Berane basins, bauxite reserves in the southwest of the
country, and reserves of lead-zinc ores mainly in the regions of Ljubišnje and
Bjelasica.
"So,
Montenegro has comparative advantages for the further development of this
activity, but it must have a sustainable and long-term vision. Only responsible
planning guarantees a home-based attitude towards our common goods, which are
available to this and generations that comes," the Prime Minister said.
Prime
Minister Marković noted that additional efforts should be made to make wise use
of the resources we have.
