PM Marković hosts Vice Chairman of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference

Podgorica, Montenegro (25 September 2017) -- Earlier today, Prime Minister Duško Marković hosted Vice Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Ma Peihoo.

It was jointly stated that interstate relations between Montenegro and the People's Republic of China are open and friendly, adding that there is room for expanding cooperation in terms of education, science and culture.

PM Marković emphasised that Montenegro principally supports the One-China policy and appreciates the fact that China, as a global power, has always had an understanding for Montenegro's strategic goals and has never challenged them. Vice Chairman Peihoo especially thanked Montenegro for its principled and firm position, saying that China highly appreciates Montenegro’s position regarding the matters of the Chinese national interest, and that the China, for its part, has a lot of understanding for the Montenegrin strategic goals and respects the choice of citizens of Montenegro when it comes to determining their own future.

Both sides agreed that the Chinese "Belt and Road" project represents a chance for all the countries within the initiative, both in terms of economy and in the field of exchange of people and ideas, thus contributing to better understanding and increasing security. Montenegro fully supports the initiative and will actively participate in it, Prime Minister Marković noted.

Priority section of the Bar-Boljare motorway, being constructed by the Chinese company CRBC along with 76 Montenegrin subcontractors, was highlighted at the meeting as an example of good cooperation in a successful project. Vice Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference expressed satisfaction with the good progress of the works and voiced belief that the motorway construction will meet the deadline and highest quality standards and will contribute not only to the prosperity of Montenegro, but also to the citizens of the entire region.

It was noted that Montenegro is interested in the Chinese investments, especially in the fields of renewable energy technologies and healthy food production, and as a destination for a greater number of the Chinese tourists.
