PM Marković: Economy grows 5.1% in Q2

In the first six months, Montenegro recorded a strong economy growth, which reached 5.1 percent in the second quarter of 2017 and 4.2 percent in the first half of the year, Prime Minister Duško Marković said earlier today in Bijelo Polje, where he opened a Franca meat production and processing factory.

Commenting on the latest research on economic growth, the Prime Minister stressed that this is a matter of both politics and standards, a chance for a higher quality of life in Montenegro, and added: "We have economy growth in the second quarter of 5.1 percent, in conditions when there is a decrease in electricity production due to drought over 66 percent. Montenegro has never had an increase in its GDP without simultaneous growth in electricity production, and besides the 66% drop in electricity production in the second quarter, we have a 5.1% economy growth, i.e. 4.2% during six months period. Therefore, this Government established a good platform, ensured the stability of public finances, and positioned itself well on the international financial market".

Recalling the positive ratings that the Government received from the IMF and the World Bank on the quality and way of managing the economy and finances, the Prime Minister said: "The World Bank will possibly publish tonight the proposal on credit rating of Montenegro. We are eagerly waiting for this decision, i.e. the position of the World Bank. I want to remind you that we are now at the end of the third quarter, and in the third quarter we have a fantastic growth in our tourism economy. "

Stressing the Government's commitment to the economy, PM Marković said that these issues are more important for all layers of society, than an irrational struggle with the opposition, "which cannot fix itself, let alone the situation in the country".
