Relations between Montenegro and Republic of Macedonia can set example to Western Balkan region, PMs Marković and Zaev stress

Prime Ministers of Montenegro and the Republic of Macedonia, Duško Marković and Zoran Zaev, concluded during their official talks in Skopje that there are no open or unresolved issues between the two friendly countries, that relations are excellent and that they are developing for the benefit of the citizens of both countries and that they can set an example to the entire Western Balkan region.

Prime ministers Marković and Zaev in particular focused on concrete possibilities of cooperation in attracting foreign investments. In that regard, the meeting assessed Prime Minister Zaev’s initiative that significant investors in one country should get the opportunity to make their investment easier in another one as interesting.

Prime Minister of the Republic of Macedonia voiced particular interest in the experiences of Montenegro in the processes of European and Euro-Atlantic accession. In that context, Prime Minister Marković expressed Montenegro’s willingness to share knowledge gained during the integration process with Macedonia.

"We will need your experience and we are at your disposal," said Prime Minister of Montenegro Duško Marković, hopeful that the Republic of Macedonia will unblock its integration processes in the shortest possible time. His informed his counterpart about Montenegro’s economic indicators, noting that its membership in NATO has strengthened the investment potentials, improved investment environment, thus further boosting the interest of investors for Montenegro.

Prime Minister Marković congratulated Mr Zaev on the excellent result of his political party in yesterday's local elections in several Macedonian municipalities, saying that everyone should be encouraged by the results that provide European and Euro-Atlantic perspectives for the region.

"Montenegro as a new NATO member is interested in continuing the enlargement process to the Western Balkan region and beyond to the countries that see their future in the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation. This is a precondition for progress," said PM Marković.

Prime Minister of Montenegro also spoke in Skopje with President of the Republic of Macedonia Đorđe Ivanov. It was concluded that the two countries, by cooperating in diplomatic missions, paved the way for stronger economic cooperation.

It was agreed that the friendship between Montenegro and the Republic of Macedonia is permanent and sustainable.

Prime Minister Marković will extend his visit to the Republic of Macedonia on Tuesday when he will take part in the Summit of 100 business leaders from South East Europe, which takes place in Skopje on 16 – 17 October.
