Baku: Session of intergovernmental commission to identify concrete projects, further boost partnership

Baku, Azerbaijan (2 November 2017) – In addition to meeting with President of Azerbaijan, Minister of Foreign Affairs Srđan Darmanović also met in Baku earlier today with Prime Minister Artur Rasizadeh, Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov and Minister of Economy Shahin Mustafayev.

During the meeting with Prime Minister Artur Rasizadeh, it was noted that the cooperation in the field of economy between Montenegro and Azerbaijan was confirmed by the strategic partnership in two major projects - investment in a tourist complex in Kumbor and bringing Azerbaijani natural gas to the Ionian coast and the Adriatic Sea, which will enable the diversification of energy sources for Montenegro and the countries of the region.

Minister Darmanović said that the initiated projects confirm the readiness of the two countries to strengthen, primarily economic cooperation, which was confirmed by the signing of a series of bilateral agreements. He expressed expectation that the forthcoming visits of the Prime Minister Duško Marković and the Speaker of the Parliament of Montenegro Ivan Brajović will open up a new perspective of cooperation in various fields.

Prime Minister Artur Rasizadeh praised cooperation between the two countries and expressed satisfaction that one of the biggest investments in Montenegro, such as the Portonovi project, comes from Azerbaijan, which will further boost the ties and partnership between the two countries.

Foreign ministers, Darmanović and Mammadyarov discussed the dynamics of the development of the launched infrastructure and projects in the field of energy, as well as the possibilities of future cooperation in the fields of tourism, infrastructure, agriculture, education and science, sport, environmental protection, etc. In that regard, it was agreed that the upcoming bilateral political consultations will be an opportunity to identify concrete projects of mutual interest.

They also referred to the achieved cooperation on the multilateral plan, as well as the importance of implementing signed bilateral agreements that will contribute to the further development of interstate cooperation.

The meeting with Minister of Economy Shahin Mustafayev noted that the forthcoming Session of the Intergovernmental Mixed Commission for Economic Cooperation will provide an incentive for the implementation of new projects that will strengthen the overall relations.
