Minister Bošković at NAC meeting: Montenegro will be committed to working on key tasks of Alliance
Brussels,
Belgium (8 November 2017) -- Minister of Defence Predrag Bošković participates in the meeting of the North Atlantic
Council (NAC) at the level of defence ministers of NATO countries, which takes
place today and tomorrow in Brussels.
Minister
Bošković stressed that Montenegro, as a new member, will be committed to
working on the key tasks of the Alliance in order to effectively respond to
contemporary security challenges and threats. He said that our country actively
contributes to the preservation of global peace and security through engagement
in international missions and operations, adding that Montenegro will continue
its intensive activities to integrate the national defence system into the
Alliance's collective security system. The Minister emphasised that our country
strongly supports the aspirations of the countries of the region in terms of
membership in NATO, with full contribution to regional peace and stability, as
one of the priorities in the future period.
NATO
defence ministers analysed the results achieved so far in the implementation of
decisions taken at the Warsaw Summit. In the context of the current security
situation and the readiness of the Alliance to respond adequately to
contemporary threats, the ministers exchanged views on activities in the area
of further fighting terrorism and other threats that affect the security of the
transatlantic community. In order to improve the role of the Alliance in
addressing contemporary security challenges, the importance of preventive
action on potential threats arising from terrorists outside the borders of NATO was highlighted. Also, it was emphasised that the Alliance must decisively
approach the strengthening of efficiency in response to cyber and hybrid
threats.
On the
sidelines of the meeting, Minister Bošković met with newly-appointed UK Minister
of Defence Gavin Williamson. The
ministers discussed the cooperation of the two countries in the field of
defence.
