PM Marković opens Njegoš's room, visits reconstructed building of former Russian Embassy in Cetinje

Cetinje, Montenegro (17 November 2017) -- Prime Minister Duško Marković opened the Njegoš's room in the National Library "Đurđe Crnojević" in Cetinje, which contains the first editions of Njegoš's works in the original, unique translations of Njegoš into world languages, original manuscripts, personal and state letters, his portraits, encyclopedias in which Njegoš is represented, rare posters of theatre performances with Njegoš as topic or inspiration.

He emphasised that this room is of special significance, because it is located in the National Library of Montenegro, and that Njegoš was not only the ruler of his time, but also a state librarian in a certain way, because it was in 1832 when he established a library in the format that is needed for every civilised country.

Recalling the impenetrable value of Njegoš's state and literary work and his influence on all important South Slavic writers, the Prime Minister said:

"Njegoš himself, with the knowledge that encompassed three major European languages (Russian, French, Italian), was aware that the time to come carries loneliness and isolation, and also brings to the forefront the collective and state need for European life and Euro-Atlantic security. Based on similar political views, we confirmed more than a decade ago, but also this year, his state projections and secured Montenegro for good."

PR ServicePrime Minister Duško Marković also visited, along with Mayor of Cetinje Capital Aleksandar Bogdanović and UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative for Montenegro Fiona McCluney, the reconstructed building of former Russian Embassy, which was badly damaged in a fire in 2012.

Expressing satisfaction with the quality of the works done, Prime Minister Marković, Mayor Bogdanović and Ambassador McCluney, agreed that the reconstructed building represents a new quality for the Old Royal Capital Cetinje.

Reconstruction works started on 27 November 2015. The total cost of the project is EUR 2.75 million.

The building of former Russian Embassy was built in 1903.
