Joint railway station of Montenegro and Albania is opened

The delegation of the Ministries of Transport and Maritime Affairs of Montenegro, led by Minister Osman Nurković, and the Albanian Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy led by Minister Damian Gjiknuri, officially opened the joint railway station Tuzi. On the road to meeting European standards for negotiating chapter 14 – Transport policy, a common railway station is a major advance and the first railway station of this type in the region. Bearing in mind the importance of the initiative to shorten travel time for passenger and off-road trains at border crossings, the Government of Montenegro and the Council of Ministers of Albania signed an Agreement on the organisation of border railway traffic on 3 August 2017.

Regarding the investments on this border line, Montenegro has prepared an application for the preparation of the main reconstruction, electrification and modernisation project for the entire railway Podgorica – state border with Albania (worth EUR 2 million), in the length of 24.7 km.

The delegations also visited the construction site of the Moračica Bridge on the primary section of the Bar-Boljare motorway.

The ministers held a bilateral meeting in the Villa Gorica, where they discussed the formation of mixed commissions for solving the problems of the Bojana River Basin, shallow water bed and deepening possibilities in order to make it navigable. The ministers agreed that the Skadar Lake's underused potentials are underdeveloped, and that there should be a joint effort to evaluate it economically.

As far as road infrastructure is concerned, the Feasibility Study for a fast road along the Montenegrin coast is being done. The road route Tuzi – Ploče, Gusinje – Grnčar, Sukobin –Vladimir – Krute and Ostros – Krute were made. Currently, works on the section Ulcinj – Krute are being carried out, and it is also planned to reconstruct the road from the canyon of the Cijevna River to the border with Albania.

It was agreed that the mixed commissions of Montenegro and Albania will undertake activities to harmonise the text of the Agreement on carriage of passengers and cargo in road traffic.

The Albanian delegation also met with Minister of Economy Dragica Sekulić.
