PMs Marković, Ratas: Enlargement is one of the most important EU policies

PR ServiceBudapest, Hungary (27 November 2017) -- Prime Minister of Montenegro Duško Marković and Juri Ratas, the Prime Minister of Estonia, currently presiding over the European Union, agreed that the EU enlargement policy is one of the most important European policies, and that Montenegro's entry into NATO is significant due to the increase in the number of states that share defence and security policies.

Prime Minister Marković thanked Estonia for its support for Montenegro's EU bid at today's China - CEEC Summit in Budapest.

"The EU enlargement policy in the Western Balkans should be one of the most significant European policies, because it is also a matter of economy and development, but also of stability of the region," said Prime Minister of Montenegro Duško Marković.

He reiterated that Montenegro's interest is a good dynamics of the accession negotiations.

Congratulating Montenegro on joining NATO, Prime Minister Ratas pointed out that Estonia equally supports the EU enlargement.

"Estonia is, as it has always been, very positive about the enlargement policy, because we want to see the European Union getting stronger," Prime Minister Ratas underlined.

The two officials concluded that there is room for strengthening cooperation between the two countries, and voiced common interest in the transfer of rich Estonian experiences in the field of digitisation and especially cyber security.

Prime Minister Marković invited his Estonian counterpart to visit Montenegro.
