DPM Pažin greets noble mission of Campaign Unwanted

Deputy Prime Minister Zoran Pažin met today with representatives of the NGO Center for Women's Rights, the initiators of the Campaign Unwanted, which aims to prevent the abuse of medical tests for the prenatal selection of sex.

I want to greet the noble mission of your campaign and to express the Government's full support to addressing this important social issue. The success of this campaign would undoubtedly mean a step forward in the emancipation of Montenegrin society, DPM Pažin said.

The Deputy Prime Minister assessed that resolving such sensitive and complex social issues requires joint action and cooperation between state institutions, civil sector and citizens.

I am convinced that we will jointly succeed in overcoming this problem that affects the very core of our social being. Your energy, expertise and work on raising awareness of citizens are of great importance on this path, DPM Pažin concluded.

Director of NGO Center for Women's Rights Maja Raičević said that she was encouraged by the Government’s initiative to hold the meeting even before the process of collecting signatures in support of the Initiative was finalised, which will soon be officially submitted to the Government of Montenegro. Raičević expressed the hope that from now on the Government, the civil sector and other social agents will, primarily through education, contribute to overcoming the negative cultural norms that lead to this problem.

Concrete steps have been agreed in achieving civil and public sector cooperation, with the expectation of support from international organisations, in order to address this important social issue both in terms of human rights and in relation to the improvement of the education and health system.
