Paris, France (12 December 2017) -- Deputy Prime Minister Zoran Pažin participated today at the One Planet Summit in Paris, dedicated to climate change.

Two years after the signing of the historic Paris Agreement on climate change, the Summit was an opportunity for world leaders to confirm the determination of the international community to limit the impact of climate change and preserve a healthy environment for future generations.

Senior officials from around 100 countries and hundreds of leaders from the international public, business and civil sectors discussed new models of financing activities in fight against climate change, more dynamic reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, using innovative solutions to adapt to the necessary changes and help the most vulnerable countries.

"Coming from a country whose undisputed natural beauty is a vital part of its identity, we in Montenegro are extremely interested in the success of these global efforts and are entirely willing to contribute to this endeavor within our capabilities," DPM Pažin said.

DPM Pažin reiterated that Montenegro ratified the Paris Agreement on climate change. "By agreement, we committed ourselves to reducing the greenhouse gas emissions as part of the fight against the negative impact of climate change. Such a goal was also defined by the National Climate Change Strategy by 2030," he explained.

He also pointed out that the efforts made by Montenegro to fulfill the goals of the Paris Agreement significantly contribute to the successful implementation of the commitments from the European agenda in this field. "In that sense, we expect to open negotiations in Chapter 27 – Environmental Protection, as one of technically and financially most demanding chapters in the accession negotiations of Montenegro in the next year," the Deputy Prime Minister concluded.

The hosts and co-organisers of this important international meeting were the President of French Republic Emmanuel Macron, the Secretary-General of the United Nations António Guterres, and the President of the World Bank Group Jim Yong Kim.
