FM Darmanović in Brussels: Montenegro leader in EU accession negotiations

Brussels, Belgium (12 December 2017) – Minister of Foreign Affairs Srđan Darmanović took part in the working lunch of foreign ministers from the EU member states and candidate countries, which was held under the Estonian presidency of the EU Council.

Following the meeting, the Montenegrin Foreign Minister noted that this was a successful year in the process of negotiations with the European Union, stressing that Montenegro, with 30 open chapters, is the leader in the process of EU accession negotiations.

He added that the EU is highly committed to the Western Balkans and the enlargement process and that it understands the challenges facing the region, not only when it comes to the promotion of the rule of law, democracy and economic development, but also in terms of security.

Minister Darmanović said that this meeting was an encouragement for the candidate countries and that there is strong will for the successful continuation of the enlargement process and the joint cooperation between the EU and the Western Balkans.
