Published on: Dec 14, 2017 • 4:17 PM Author: Ministry of Science
Michael Hoch, a scientist and photographer from CERN, held a lecture on the Art@CMS programme for students of art faculties at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Cetinje today. The lecture was organized by the Ministry of Science in cooperation with the University of Montenegro.
The concept of the Art@CMS programme was previously presented at a meeting with professors of the academies, attended by: Dr. Vuk Vuković, Dr. Edin Jašarović (Faculty of Dramatic Arts), Dr. Aleksandar Perunović (Music Academy), Ana Matić and Maja Šofranac (Faculty of Fine Arts).
Michael Hoch introduced students of bachelor and postgraduate studies to the main activities of CERN, experiments carried out in this prestigious scientific institution, as well as multidisciplinary projects that are being implemented on them. Previous activities of Art@CMS programme, through which a large number of art faculties from Europe and beyond were connected, were also presented.
It was agreed that the Art@CMS programme is organized at all three faculties within certain subjects, in the second semester of this year, where the connection between science and art will be presented through various disciplinary fields. Students will have the opportunity to give proposals and present their concepts, which will be further developed within a multidisciplinary course.
Also, a workshop is planned to be held in the second half of February, which should be the result of the joint work of all three art faculties, supported by scientists from Montenegro and CERN. A group of students from Montenegro will have the opportunity to pay a study visit to CERN, and as a result of cooperation, an exhibition of their works will be organized, as well as networking with other faculties from Europe involved in the programme.
Cooperation with the Montenegrin artistic community within the ART@CMS programme has already been initiated at this year’s Science Open Days, through the exhibition “Art and Science”. At a recent meeting of the Minister of Science Sanja Damjanović with the representatives of the academies, models of future cooperation with CERN were discussed, as well as the implementation of partnership with European prestigious institutions, i.e. networking with leading scientists and artists who have experience with multidisciplinary programmes that can be applied at Montenegrin academies.
Montenegro has officially become a full member of the CMS, one of the largest LHC experiments in CERN, this year. The Art-at-CERN programme offers a wide range of project opportunities that can be financed through the EU Horizon 2020 Framework Programme.
Art@CMS is a broad collaboration between artists, scientists, the academic community and teachers. The aim of the project is to present the general public with the beauty of science and the latest discoveries that will inspire young people to engage in science.
