Minister of European Affairs Aleksandar Andrija Pejović met earlier today with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Likevičius. Montenegro can count on all the necessary support of Lithuania in meeting the conditions for EU membership, it was assessed at the meeting.

Minister Pejović presented to Minister Likevičius the results of the Intergovernmental Conference held recently in Brussels, where chapters 2 and 3 were opened, as well as other chapters to be opened.

The Minister pointed out that cooperation and support in the opening and later closing of the chapters is of key importance for Montenegro during this negotiation period.

He stressed that Lithuania has always been Montenegro's strong partner and of great assistance in the negotiation process.

Minister Pejović recalled that during the Lithuanian EU presidency five chapters were opened, including key chapters 23 and 24. He pointed out that Montenegro has so far implemented three twinning projects in which Lithuania was a partner.

Lithuania still strongly supports the European path of Montenegro, as it did during its presidency of the European Union when excellent results were recorded, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičus said.

In this context, Minister Linkevič pointed to the willingness of the Lithuania to continue with twinning projects and the provision of expert support to Montenegro, especially in the area of strategic planning as a new policy of the Ministry of European Affairs.

The ministers agreed that Montenegro must make the best use of the forthcoming Bulgarian EU presidency, the new strategic framework for the enlargement of the European Commission, as well as the summit of the European Union and the Western Balkans countries to be held in May in Sofia.
