Prime Minister Duško Marković thanked Montenegrin businessmen for supporting the Government, saying that the unsustainable and measurable successes the Government achieved in the past year represent the success of our economy for the benefit of Montenegrin citizens.

For me personally and for the Government, this was a demanding and difficult year, a year of fears of not responding to our goals. At the beginning of the year we were threatened not only by the instability of the Government but also by the instability of the State. Our economy was in a serious challenge to lose the chances of progress. The Government has seriously faced this challenge and today I can be pleased and proud of what we have done. This is not just success of the Government and administration, it was mutual effort, the Prime Minister said.

The ambience we worked in was not a stimulating one. The major part of the political structure was aimed at setting limits so that the economy would not follow the trend we set out, PM Marković said, adding that the media lacked content on the economic development over the past twelve months.

The Prime Minister noted that the Government achieved results in such ambience, adding that the public finances were stabilised and that the economy significantly rose – in the first quarter growth was 3.2%, in the second 5.1% and in the third 4.7%. Average growth for 9 months is 4.5% and Montenegro is at the moment at the fifth place in Europe according to growth of its economy, PM Marković said.

Prime Minister Marković recalled the EUR 80 million policy based guarantee – PBG approved by the World Bank two days ago and estimated that this guarantee does not only have a financial but also a political dimension, because it means that Montenegro has earned the strong trust of international financial institutions, primarily of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.

They believe in our policy, fiscal consolidation, and our ability to manage the economy. This is a message to the entire international community that needs to be invested in Montenegro and that Montenegro has a good legal and economic system, he said.

The Prime Minister stressed some of the last year's successes, such as the rise of Montenegro's credit rating and progress on competitiveness lists.

PM Marković announced that in the next year there will be a continuation of the reforms of the tax administration, an even stronger and more direct fight against the gray economy and parafiscalism, especially at the local level, and new laws that will improve the business environment and assessed the implementation of the Law on Spatial Development and Construction of Structures as extremely important.

We are in the right place, the place that is useful to me and my associates in order to achieve the goal we are aiming for, the goal of the state policy, and today and in the time that comes, it is reflected in the creation of a favourable business environment and growth of our economy and prosperity for our citizens. Every visit to the Chamber of Commerce is a new lesson how we need to work further, how we can do more to achieve this strategic state goal, the Prime Minister emphasised, concluding that the cooperation so far was not only cooperation but partnership on mutual demanding business.

President of the Chamber of Commerce of Montenegro Velimir Mijušković, said that last year's meeting of the Prime Minister with businessmen gave results because all remarks and suggestions were respected.

The results are already visible and are the good basis on which the economic results can be based in 2017, President of the Chamber of Commerce said.

He assessed that the challenge is to attract foreign investment in production and processing capacities, that there is no doubt that investments in infrastructure will positively affect the Montenegrin economy, that more incentive measures should be introduced, which means more incentives for exports.

The projects of the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism and the Ministry of Economy are commendable, but this is not enough, Velimir Mijušković said.

He also emphasised the importance of national branding, saying that it represents a chance for Montenegro.

We in the Chamber of Commerce work intensive on the project "Good from Montenegro". We need to work together on branding and promotion of domestic product, Mijušković said, concluding that the Government and the Chamber of Commerce share the spirit of cooperation.

The meeting is attended by Ministers of Economy, Traffic and Maritime Affairs, Sustainable Development and Tourism and Labour and Social Welfare Dragica Sekulić, Osman Nurković, Pavle Radulović and Kemal Puršić.
