Press release: A meeting of representatives of the transport ministries of the Western Balkans, Slovenia and Croatia was held at Brdo near Kranj
The meeting of representatives of the Western Balkans, Slovenia and Croatia, with the active participation of the European Commission, was held at Brdo near Kranj, at the initiative of the Minister of Infrastructure of the Republic of Slovenia Petar Gaspersic, supported by the Minister of Transport and Maritime Affairs of Montenegro Osman Nurkovic.
After the economic forum "Samit 100", which was recently held in Skopje, by companies engaged in cross-border transport, the problem of long waiting in the transport of passengers and goods in the border area and in the road and in the railways is especially apostrophied. Minister Gaspersic and Nurkovic initiated a meeting at the level of state secretaries and general directors to discuss major issues and suggested solutions for more efficient delivery of transport in the border area (there are 32 international border crossings in the region).
After the meeting, chairperson, the state secretary of the Slovenian Ministry of Infrastructure, Jure Leban, proposed a declaration that the states of the region are obliged to take measures to reduce the retention of vehicles and trains in the border area by up to 50%. The participants agreed with the proposed declaration, which will be complemented by specific measures in the next two months, having in mind two specific categories of border crossings (EU-WB6 crosses and crosses within the WB6 countries). The proposed activities will be specifically considered within the EU and Western Balkans session on TEN-T days that will take place in Ljubljana at the end of April this year.
Montenegro was represented at this meeting by State Secretary mr Muamer Hajdarpasic and General Directors of the Directorate for Road and Rail Transport in the Ministry of Transport and Maritime Affairs, Dalibor Milosevic and Milan Bankovic.
