PM Marković hosts Harlem Dezir: Government and OSCE willing to further support improvement of media scene in Montenegro
Podgorica, Montenegro (6 February 2018) -- Prime Minister Duško Marković hosted earlier today OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Harlem Desir.
PM Marković welcomed the first visit of the OSCE Representatives on Freedom of the Media to Montenegro and stressed the importance of the support of the OSCE and the Office of the Representative for the improvement of the media scene in Montenegro and the promotion of international standards in this field. In that regard, the Prime Minister stressed the Government's plans to improve the media legislative framework, stressing the importance of cooperation with the OSCE and the use of their expertise and advice.
OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media stressed good cooperation with the Government of Montenegro and welcomed the results achieved. He reiterated the OSCE's willingness to continue providing all the necessary support to further promote media freedom, protect journalists, promote media pluralism and strengthen compliance with professional standards and self-regulatory framework. It was noted that these areas are the key characteristics of a democratic society and should be in the focus of all social stakeholders.
The meeting was also attended by Head of the OSCE Mission to Montenegro, Ambassador Maryse Daviet.
